'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith renews battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the dramatic final moments of Swansea's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles amid the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative effort from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess immediately hammered in the deflection before charging toward the crowd to mark the goal, with supporters mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This capped an incredible recovery given Swansea had trailed 2-0 midway through the second half. Amid the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result earned a upcoming match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right wing-back after the team changed formation. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the Manchester squad who praised the way his former team attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Physically they are exceptional but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they know how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're all right and then abruptly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even noticing. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It demands a strong mentality and concentration just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at Orient and has quickly done the same in his new home. At his previous team he reunited with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a loan at fourth-tier Salford, before he moved on from his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without much intensity. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that maturation for both domestically and internationally, performing well for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the last several matches, including home and away fixtures against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

It has been an incredible journey for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his father, the elder Galbraith, also a central player, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's single match for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they featured on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was closed owing to temperatures of -15C. "It was a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he comments, chuckling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "This turned out fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I understood I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm hugely grateful for the years at the club but it became apparent where I thought I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another step towards getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a small coach driven by club employees, the transport team, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, another squad member, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's nice to spend time with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Public Engagement

While playing for Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on the Tube after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
